During a West Palm Beach Thyroid Scan and Uptake exam, the patient is asked to swallow a capsule that has radioactive iodine in it. Generally, the thyroid in the neck gathers up the iodine to create the thyroid hormone. The radioactive iodine accumulates in the thyroid and creates a picture under the nuclear camera, which outlines and measures the efficiency of the thyroid. If additional measurements are required, they can take up to one to three hours, and often times are not ready until the following day. If your doctor has offered you a written referral, give us a call today and schedule an appointment.
